FREE Lunchtime Talk: Ryan Moule
FREE Lunchtime Talk: Swansea International Festival 2017
Friday 13 October, 1.00pm
Round Reading Room ALEX Design Exchange, Swansea College of Art, Alexandra Road, SA1 5DX
For today’s free lunchtime talk as part of this year’s Swansea International Festival, Ryan Moule, Lecturer in Photography in Art and Contextual Practices at Swansea School of Art, takes a critical snapshot of the selfie. The defining image of our times, and now occupying countless terabytes of server space across the world, the selfie is now the most prolific photographic image in history. It therefore seems a good time to examine, analyse, and de-construct the concept of the selfie; to explore its significance in the age of fake news and declining levels of mental well-being among young people; and also to look at the longer perspective – at how the lens has been implicated in producing various forms of reality and disillusion throughout history.
